Biography

A Life Dedicated to Serving Sierra Leone

Former Speaker of the Fifth Legislature, ECOWAS Parliament

Born in Zimmi, Makpele Chiefdom, Pujehun District, Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis is the son of Alhaji Mohamed Ahmed Tunis, a distinguished Muslim Cleric, and Haja Massa Massaquoi, the daughter of a Paramount Chief. He is happily married to Mrs. Nabeela Farida Tunis, and their union is blessed with three wonderful children.

Dr. Tunis began his political career in 1995 as Secretary General of the National Unity Party. First elected to Parliament in 2002, he is now one of Sierra Leone’s longest-serving Members of Parliament — having held key roles including Minority Whip, Majority Leader, and Leader of Government Business. His legislative achievements include the passage of the Extractive Industries Revenue Act and the Local Content Agency Act.

From 2020 to 2024, he served as Speaker of the 5th Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament, leading the legislative body for 15 West African nations and over 380 million people. A champion of regional integration and democratic reform, he also brings experience as a businessman, investment consultant, and holder of a B.Sc. in Chemistry and an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Cuttington University.

Leadership is not about the position you hold — it is about the lives you touch and the futures you build. Sierra Leone deserves a leader who has been tested on every stage and is ready to deliver.

Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis

The future of Sierra Leone will not be built by one person — it will be built by all of us, united in purpose, driven by hope, and guided by the lessons of our past. I am ready to lead that journey.
